A BIRD + A CHERUB
I saw a cherub in a tree today,
sitting next to a bird as the
branch dipped and swayed
The bird was annoyed, told
the cherub to go but the
cherub, beautific, smiled
benignly said no...said...
Just so you know I have god
on my side but the bird
unimpressed and as black as
all nights replied...
Well god too, gave me wings
and a voice most divine and
and an earth sky and tree
which are not yours but mine
Go back to the angels in the
hide away land, tis there you
are needed to hold dead soul
hands
And I... vaguely aware of the
bickering pair, saw only bold
weeds teasing new flowered
air, there in the shade, in the
roots of the tree, and my only
concern....
Was there space left for me

Now this is absolutely brilliant! I adore narrative poetry and this is a superb example of how they should be done. Live, love, love it! I can see the cherub and bird so clearly in my mind. This poem has made me smile...until the sobering ending...which is just inspiring. Fabulous work x
