A Mariner's Tale

A Mariner's Tale

I be supping in tavern when I eared the gong
The Landlord's warning when something was wrong

Shanghaied by crimps, they knocked me about
The next I knowed, I was being shipped out

I’m on a full-rigger, feeling the pain
Of raising the anchor and hoisting the main

Still feeling groggy and robbed of me purse
On the high seas with no wench to curse

Me only cobber is what I be wearing
Me only fodder is what I be sharing

I swabs the decks and hauls the ropes
I’ve lost all me pride and lost all me opes

If I’m land-bound before me grave
Never again, a tavern I’ll crave

Brilliant, I love this, I couldn't help read it in a " pirates" voice - I hope you weren't press ganged into writing it!

Wow BARRY!!..... what a great read that was..... like all comments above..... it's hard NOT to hear that pirates voice in your head as you read!!..... What was SO impressive for me was your ability to keep up the continuity throughout.... that is an extremely difficult thing to do.....and it becomes POWERFULLY recognizable when you read this aloud!!..... fantastic poetry brother!!.......PINNED for perfection!!.......smokin' grooves my friend!!......smokin' grooves!!!!...... Bravo 👏👏👏.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo 👌✴👍👍👍✴😊

Hi Barry.....I love how you used the perfect pirate lingo to make this feel genuine...and flowed great too!  I feel sorry for the poor bloke, swabbing the deck and not really enjoying the pirate's adventurous life...I love your sense of humor and your style...Really great work! xo ;0

Dear Barry,

I guess sometimes, taking a cruise on the sea is not so enjoyable.
Congratulations on your nomination.  I love your rhetoric, as you portray a poor bloke who drank too much at the pub, and ended up with a long, long hangover.

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
