fond memories of good times

mortgages, loans, arrears

holidays, cars, the high life

bankers allaying any fears

nothing lasts forever

the party had to end

negative equity, job losses

the jolly banker unwilling to lend

innocous at the outset

just a fad that cannot last

its stranglehold ever tightening

its payback for the past

luxuries abandoned

worrying about the price

soup kitchens aplenty

forced to sacrafice

tentacles far reaching

affecting both rich and poor

neighbourly good will diminished

fearing that knock upon the door

postman saunters up the garden path

delivering unwanted mail

staring at the unopened envolope

complexion now slightly pale

switching off the heating

being economical with the car

pride demands you stand your ground

dignity threatened by the penny jar

anything to save your skin will do

youre on a sticky wicket

dreaming of bygone times

ever relying on a lottery ticket

if history tells us one thing

well good times will come again

its unlikely to be soon i fear

before that much more pain
