The Chasms Of My Heart

The Chasms Of My Heart

In the solitary moments
of a cold clear autumn night.
A leaf falls softly drifting
in a breeze so soft and light.

All the leaves are
changing to the color
of her hair.
Does anyone notice?
Does anybody care?

Memories jingle in my pocket
Portraits glow inside my head.
Why did summer die so quickly?
Was it something that I said?

When endings have just finished.
Do new beginning come to start?
Or do ghostly shapes come calling
in the chasms of your heart.

The world is like a spaceship
spinning silently in space,
and the shadows come a-calling
leaving pictures of your face.

Is it you I need beside me
with a promises not to part?
To still these ghostly echoes
In the chasms of my heart.
