Poem -

Comfortably Numb

Comfortably Numb

Too much rain
Too much sun
The weather is erratic
I feel guilty and numb

Forest fires
More to come
Nobody's listening
Are they deaf and numb?

Ice is melting
On the run
Smother an Island
It feels helplessly numb

Leader's quiet
Leader's dumb
Leader's not believing
They feel comfortably numb

Hi Barry.  Nice to see you on Cosmo.  There are so many changes all around us, and it does seem as the world is comfortably numb and nothing is being done to get us out of being desensitized.  It bothers me. I don't understand the world I live in.  We need to love our world and nurture and take care of Mother Earth.  Thank you for sharing awareness.  xo ;)

Thank you, Cherie, We should have done something years ago. I have been busy repairing the house and haven't written much lately. Have a very happy New Year.   Barry x

The word play in the poem was a nice touch. How you repeated the word, numb throughout the poem worked well. I also liked that it was a short poem, although I have a tendency of urging people to add more to their poems, give us a page of it I say. When you see a poem like yours, you want the writer to keep going with that particular thought process. I bet you could extend this poem a little or a lot, just an idea.

Thank you very much, Katina. Some of my poems are very long ('Murder in Toyland' for instance has now run to 15 pages) but with this one, I wanted it to be simple and down to earth, if it was much longer, the word numb would lose it's effect, I think.   Barry x

Great, I found the poem. Will read it and share my review sometime today. You have 7 pages of poems published, incredible! I'll make it my mission to read them all (in time). :)

Happy New Year
