Poem -

Daniel Manus Pinkwater

Daniel Manus Pinkwater

Daniel Manus Pinkwater is a very funny man,
He is a humorous and entertaining writer.
Yet there’s another serious side of him,
He normally writes with metaphor and pun.

Mr. Pinkwater lived at Chicago, Illinois, Los Angeles,
Where he grew up as a little funny kid.
He travels all over America and beyond,
But was actually born in Memphis, Tennessee.

When I was a kid I read and loved Mark Twain,
I never knew Daniel till I reached twenty.
But I loved him so much as I read his books,
It looked like both Mark and Daniel are twins.

In college Mr. Pinkwater read about traditional sculpture,
He ate and breathed sculpture for two years.
He will never sleep until he has cut a stone,
And that’s how he finally became such a darling writer.

I didn’t decided writing children books, I floated into it,
And that’s exactly what happened to Pinkwater.
Because I read him, my writing skills are like his,
Only that I’m tough and dark, whiles he is very fat and pink.

How does a writer such as Mr. Pinkwater begin a novel?
He is like an actor getting into character.
His brothers and sisters lead him to write,
And now little people are running to be in his level.

He don’t just force his characters to pull together and land,
He just sits for them to prepare themselves to act.
Then when he begin, his characters will show up,
It’s just like the movie - “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

He loves to write always, but does not sit and write everyday,
Sometimes he shows up at the K. Mart to shop.
At times too he visits the pool and the beach,
It would be terrible if he had to work every hour and every day.

Just like I do, at times he draws his pictures on a paper with a pencil,
This helps him to easily get the idea of his story.
As most writers do, he writes with computer,
But at times too he writes with typewriter, screwdriver or chisel.

After living so many years and working in Hoboken, New Jersey,
Mr. Pinkwater decided to move to another place.
At times writers love to explore their environment,
So he and his writing wife, Jill, moved north of New York City.

Daniel Manus Pinkwater is a very busy man, he does many things,
In addition to writing he also does editing, illustration.
He also appears on the program “All Things Considered.”
To be frank, I don’t know how he even gets time to rest, sleep or think.

Lee asked Mr. Manus, “What advice do you have for young writers?”
Then he said, “Write things that are fun to you.”
Now, I may be a clear example of this piece here,
It’s now your turn to know more of writing, and fix it on your fingers.

This is how far I’ve got to know Mr. Daniel Manus Pinkwater,
A well known and respected American writer.
In the next years you may not hear of Pinkwater,
But you shall surely hear of several young aspiring writers.
