Drowned Words

Drowned Words

Drowned Words
It seems like an innocent journey
a breath of fresh air
among the mud and gullies
of a drowned land.

Between word and comma
the struggle begins.
It sucks you in
pulling at your ankles
as life sometimes does.

Every verse demands courage
and when you slip
there is a silence
that pulls you out of the mud.

Poetry and reader
getting dirty together
and picking each other up
neatly to the rhythm
of the tides
of a drowned land.

A deep, slow peace
that restores within;
you drown briefly
only to emerge cleaner.
