Haunting Knights of Stone

Gargoyles stand high guarding a place of significance and mystery, where men once wore steel and armor to protect
Protect his country, his maidens, princes and princesses, kings and queens, in an almost ruined village of ghosts on horseback
Hiding behind a mask of defense, sharp are their weapons to fight back, punished if not running in the front line of combat
Wounded are their souls when battles lost, holding on to the stones that lay, finding a place for a haunted revenge
Blood cries out and no one is there, all have died with no rulers left, the village is burnt and the babes are stolen
Waiting for the day, maybe hundreds of years, when the Knight and his kingdom are built again, and all past flesh is reborn
For tonight the gargoyles are no longer protecting them,  they are shattered and broken stone, as the fog lays low on the dead
My head lays low, as my hands grow old and I lust for my dark tall rugged knight, as he haunts my every thought and keeps me safe
My heart is made of stone, as the tombs of the castle are made, where I will wait for my treasured haunting knight, as he sweeps me away in the shadows
Our shadows will disappear into a mist of love, the purest kind you can imagine, for my heart of stone will be broken and will beat once more
Beat with compassion and desire, to take one last breath, and hold my knight as though he has never been gone, our touch will soon haunt the world we regain
