Hope Is Not My Friend

HOPE is the expectationÂ
That all will be alright.
HOPE is the exhalationÂ
Of the darkness from the light.
HOPE, it keeps us going
When the road is long and far.
HOPE, it keeps us living
Healing deep inflicted scars.Â
But HOPE is just an illusion
A carrot dangled on a string.
It's the positive expectation
Of the happiness life can bring.
We can fool ourselves that 'it's alright',Â
As we slave and struggle in our plight;
When we are knocked, we can start to fight.
HOPE keeps us going, it keeps us right
But HOPE is not a friend of mine.
It does not mend my broken mind.
It sets me goals
To fool my soul
That i'll get what I want to find.
Each day we struggle in our own way
And we all HOPE that tomorrow will be a better day
We HOPE that tomorrow will send joy our way.
But, when tomorrow does arrive
And HOPE is standing by your side,
You ask "Is today my day?"
HOPE replies "no way, Jose"
"Tomorrow is but another day,"
"Lets see if tomorrow you will get your way!"
HOPE is perpetual, endless and yearning
To keep us all going, but we are never learning
That HOPE is in fact a cruel and harsh desire
That will only cause upset and put out our soul's fire.Â
