HOURGLASS

As the sun rises
The light separates the blinds
From the black wall of night
I lay here thinking, before I make a cup
The grinds tell me it's been so long
The hourglass of a working mans time
He's not yours, you're not mine
We're all just pawns
Them red heels, your boots
That construction helmet, my thorns
It's one thing to take all life's blows
It's another to get lost in ones head, god knows
It's not my sermon I preach to you
Why we fear such change, yet search for something new?
As night falls
The darkness shuts out the the light sin casts
The cocaine runs from your nose
You lie there on the floor, shaking for more
The lines tell you, it's been too long
The hourglass of a working girls time
This is your grind, it ain't fine
We're all just pawns
Them red heels, your boots
That construction helmet, my thorns
It's one thing to take all life's blows
It's another to get lost in ones head, god knows
It's not my sermon I preach to you
Why we fear such change, yet search for something new?
