Poem -

I am Not Made of Stone

I am Not Made of Stone

I am not made of stone, nor marble's cold touch
Though I stand silently stoic, and he knows it
With countenance of Athena in a war stance
Yet, entertaining entrancement of Aphrodite
In love's sensual psychoactive dance

I come bearing gifts of abundant affection
Perhaps from years of its neglect
Whispering my heart's desires in a plea
Hoping he will suddenly hold my hand
With the same incessant need as in me

For how long can I hold pensive composure
Searching the elusive sky for reasons why
With the expectation of overcoming regrets
When all it takes is his embrace in faith
The kismet kiss, somehow the world forgets

Once, I looked into the eyes of my hidden soulmate
Allowed a veil to cover a future of certainties
I have not forgotten how it hurts to feel alone
Never again shall I tread that path of pretending
My tears solidify truth; I am not made of stone

Hi Lisa!  Oh yay!  I am honored!  There are many faces, and phases of love....and as cliche as it is, love needs expression...It does not know how to pretend ti does not feel.  Thank you for the strong support,  That inspires me!  Bless you. xo ;)  Love n Hugs

Hey, I’m slightly new here so I’m not familiar with the norms of commenting on work, that said I am on other platforms where I’m comfortable with the commenting format so I will use that as my guide.
This is a great piece, I love the use of mythological beings that you incorporated with the sterness of Stone, whether intentional or not, I instantly thought of Medusa and her curse of turning others to stone, in this case the narrative.
It’s as though the lack of reciprocation is slowly solidifying both, emotions and exterior.

There is a deep sense of longing in this piece that is clear throughout and portrayed so nicely with your use of language.
Great piece :D

Hi Leight.  Welcome to Cosmo!  I appreciate you taking time to read my work and comment.  Your commentary is very insightful.  Thank you.  You really felt the intent of my write, the longing, and refusal to pretend she does not feel and need reciprocation.  Sometimes in order to appear strong in life we hide the truly emotional depths and layers that make us who we are.  Love needs expression.  There is strength in tears. I love your comparison to Medusa and her curse...which can be a kind of metaphorical reference to loss and unconsummated love.  Thanks so much!  xo ;)

Hi Linda.  Thank you. Those who have loved and lost sometimes put up a stoic front to hide their pain.....but the truth is that they hurt and it affects them forever.  Love needs to express itself and not pretend it doesn't...Just my thoughts.  I am glad you liked my poem.  Thank you. xo ;)

My Dear Cherie,

A very powerful piece indeed.

People claim that while "The Pieta" near
They have  actually seen Mary, shed a tear
Proving that even one made of stone
Can cry for something uncondoned

All my love,
Larry xxx

Hi dear Larry.....Great comparison....Those things that seem stoic and unmoved, usually hold the most emotion..... to be moved and shed tears is (in my opinion) a great strength.  Pretending in life that we have it all together is not healthy....To feel and express it is to love deeply.  Thank you for your insightful comments and veses.  xo Love n Hugs

Hi Greg...I would say you are very wise in the ways of love....There are many kinds of ways to love...and each has great value....I think once you love someone, that affects you forever.  I am very emotional over love....It is a sacred experience that moves the soul....How can one not be emotional over that?  lol  Thank you for your kind support.  xo ;)

Wow super cool poem creative and evocative. I believe marriage has its ups and downs but the ups are great and downs are not as bad as loneliness or promiscuity.
I admire your awesome well rhymed scheme and poetic effects. Cling on to the love pal. Kudos.

so nice to read from your inking again
I come to wish u Happy  new year and do please review /comment my newest poem too.

Happy new year to you, and thank you.  I totally agree with you!  Lol  There is a comfort in having one person in your life that you go through trials of life with....and promiscuity or being alone leave a void that cannot be filled.  I have never been a person who does well without affection or companionship.  Thank you for such an insightful commentary of my poem.  I will definitely check out your newest work....I am so behind on Cosmofunnel, with so much other writing projects going on in my life, but always love to be inspired when I am on here... xo ;)

Thank you, DD!  I think many people have to put on a brave front and smile to hide pain, but inside they are very vulnerable and feel deeply.  I appreciate your kind support.  ;) xo
