In Defense of Grinchness

I despise
overly jolly people
on general principle
all the year round
but my animosity
toward the tyranny 
of forced frivolity
grows exponentially
during the holidays

All I ask
of the prancing elves
is that they at least
have the common decency
to temper the Kumbaya festivities
around us perceived Grinches
of Humbug sensibilities 

They can attach their judgments
to my party pooper temperament
all they wish
but I have no patience
when they look at me with pity
sitting off in the corner
texting in avoidance
of their chattering small talk nonsense
I have zero interest
in participating in

It's simply I prefer to be real
