Indoors Kookaburra 2

Hay fever in the storm.
Kookaburra there, alone.
Watching for all the shadows
In the alley
Coming up behind him.
Catches up his blood and bone.

Trees stand tall.
Mountains in the background
On the coast
Down where Ma lives.
Past the fucking urban sprawl.
Lives lived better than before

He met her
When he dreamed blackness
Was all.
Though Kookaburra remained
Indoors.

He wins some shifts
In a small kitchen.
Doing dishes while he misses
Phone conversations
He thinks of as love letters.

In the passed she whispers
'Wide spread open spaces
Is exactly what is needed
For a Kookaburra who stays
Indoors.

For a Kookaburra no one misses.'
