The letter

Yet another poem inspired by SSgt Barry Sadler 

My   darling

I am tired and sad, I have been here so very long.  Soon it will be time for me to come home.

Please remember that I love you.  And this is so very true.  Pleas my love just say a prayer for me. This letter is post marked Afghanistan.          Last night we had a fire fight machine guns and rockets firing through the night.  And as we fired back my mind it turned to you and I knew that I would make it through.    I have been many places and I have seem wars ugly faces.  My darling I promise you after this my wars are through I will lay my rifle down and come home to you. 

Even being far from you, I think of you each day.   I will come home when I can.   This letter is post marked Afghanistan.    Please tell my folks I care and that I am well.  And I will see you all as soon as I can  and give my son a kiss   and tell him daddy loves him   I will close  this letter now  with all my love
