Love's Recognition

Love's Recognition

Strolling along the shore of the beach, in a somber place,
A middle aged woman lifts up her sad, pondering face
Against the backdrop of a brilliant purple splashed sky,
She plays back painful memories in her life and asks, "Why?"

There was a former time, in her carefree youthful days
When she would laugh and frolic in the surging ocean waves
But this day brings another time, one of deep reflection
In her aching loneliness, she longs for real connection

She stares out into the vast ocean's deep blue mystery
With each incoming wave she recalls her life's history
Despite her heartache, and trapped feelings of no escape
The sea air seems to whisper, "Just wait for your soulmate!"

This urgent longing in her heart pricks and stings, as she prays
In her desperation, she cries to God, "Show me Your ways!"
Falling to her knees, her flowing tears catch the salty air
Viewed in her stooping position, sea shells glisten everywhere

Their beauty distracts her, and so she begins to gather
The ones that catch her eye; the shells that seem to matter
She tosses out the broken ones, and keeps those that are whole
While sifting through the pieces, she relates them to her soul

She had focused so much on the broken pieces of her life
She missed opportunities to be strong, despite her strife
Like the waves' pounding presence caused some shells to break or crack
Others rolled along with the waves, tumbling out, still intact

The woman realized she let circumstances confine her
Nothing that happened around her could ever define her
Her inner spirit of love had a lot left to give
And the passion inside her would show her how to live

As she begins to rise from her kneeling stance on the sand
She is offered, unexpectedly, an outstretched stranger's hand
A man proceeds to help her to her feet, much to her surprise
And then he greets her with a smile and such soft, gentle eyes

These two mesmerized souls gaze at each others expression
Both have the same inexplicable feeling and impression
It's like coming home, or a movie scene,  or a dream come true
The gentleman says, "This may sound strange, but I feel I know you!"

With love's recognition, she answers, "I believe that you do!"

What a beautiful poem. Our feelings change like the ocean's waves. There is a saviour out there somewhere, or maybe within.    Barry x

Hi Barry.  Loneliness is such a hard emotion to feel in life...and yet we always look for hope and to know we are not really alone in life...I do believe in soulmates....as far as one that can complement our personalities and be a companion to make us a better self.  Thank you, for your kind support. xo ;)

Hi Greg...Don't cry, Greg...I will share my seashell collection with you.  I actually really do love to go to the beach and go on a seashell treasure hunt.  I make crafts out of them.  I pictured this scene in my head of a woman being so caught up in looking for shells, and reflecting on her sad memories of life, that she could miss a perfect love right in front of her.  Sometimes we can miss things in life that we dismiss as coincidences, but they can be destiny.  I think she realizes this when she looks into the eyes of the man who helps her  up.  We can get so caught up in sadness in life sometimes, that we may miss the blessings.  I do feel very alone at times and would love to be walking on the beach right now...sigh.  Thank you. xo ;)

I love the beach too.  The beach is about 4 hours from me and I miss taking the kids...It has been awhile. I really hope I can afford to go in the future.  It is a great place to walk and think and appreciate beauty in nature.  I am sure the beaches in Florida are beautiful there.  I have been to Daytona Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and beaches near Orlando  It has been a very long time though.  They were beautiful when I was there..The sand was white!  Here, the sand is tan or grey in NC.  It is a beautiful day here in the 80s....and I plan to sit on my back deck and work on my poetry book.  have a great day Greg.

By the way, I do have a very elaborate seashell collection from year of collecting.  I have found some very pretty ones.  ;)

Lol...Cherie-isms for sure!  I used to do a lot of narrative poems.  I like poems that tell a story and leave the reader in the scene pondering what happens next.  In this one, I see her finding a gentleman who will become her husband, and they will treasure seek and collect seashells together. Lol...You never know in your life when things will change.  I am glad you can tell I reworked this poem...I think it was from 2014.  My style of writing has changed a lot, and so I just do not like my older poems, and I am trying to bring them up to standard as my newer ones, with a lot of work.  Thanks, T.  Love n Hugs xo ;)

Hi Lisa....Thank you.  That is a sweet thing to say.  I do wish that we could have that human touch right now..We feel so isolated and alone with the pandemic of Covid-19 dictating that we keep distance...but our emotions need to stay connected.  I do hope that what I write can resonate with those that feel lonely right now....the closeness that is still relevant and the hope that life will return to time of that human connection on intimate levels.  I appreciate your insight.  Love n Hugs, xo

" She cries to God. Show me, your ways. " Why would she not ? Considering " THE LIGHT " and where you find, it. The heart of the matter, is what matters to the heart. In the love, of others, you find a peace. " DO UNTO OTHERS, AS YOU WOULD DO, UNTO YOURSELF. " The enrichment of your life, and, what you get out of, it....obvious. In the longing and the belonging is promise for the future, and more enjoyment of " THE PRESENT " ! The economy of effort, into what matters most, driving you ever onwards. To, progress dreams, and a state of affairs, like no other.
If, you think about, it, and I know you do, regularly, there is wonder to be found, there. Away, from the mundane. In the arms of security, and comfort. The need for the best in life, amplified by a magical spell cast. To, effect everything, anywhere.
What a lesson to us all. In commitment to the write. And, more. Than, thought possible. What a cherished piece, you give, to the world, for the sake of emotional involvements, as never matched. History, tells you so. Time, and time again. With, the tide not turning away, from the " moments " which share with you, the fantasy. And, the reality....OF, LIFE.   x  X x

Wow Richard. Thank you. I worked and reworked this narrative so I am so happy for your elaborate commentary. Loneliness can cause us to reflect and analyze our life...and turning to God to show us the way will allow blessings to flow. Love and hugs to you. Xo

You, can turn, to any thing. I, imagine. In, the heart of hearts, you must find the path, for you. Whether God chooses to be at your side, or not. The ways of the world, are there, to teach. You, must learn. By, your own tools. And, rules. Applying yourself, to be more, and, to make more.
THAT, MUST MAKE SENSE ? Surely. When you live, the dream. As well as the heartbreak, to take, and to share, a whole load of experiences. As, defined by your parameters, of " good " and " bad " ! In, truth, you discover accommodating principles, to carry you, where you want to be. Is, that, not the fact of the matter ? And, what matters. To, you.
GIVE, IT, a thought ? Then, you will educate yourself, from finding a peace, within yourself. True ? Obvious, or not ?

MAKE MORE, of your wealth of experiences. To, educate. To, evaluate. To, contemplate. THE PEACE, of the dream-state. How nice would, that, be, now ? Considering, everything, which goes on !  :)  X

I agree that experience teaches us a lot in life as to where to go forward to make necessary changes from ones that hurt us. We live in a very unstable world right now, and wouldn't it be nice if we could get love and how we treat each other during this time?  We must never lose the human touch, or we lose ourselves.  I have done that over and over in life, and do not plan to make that  mistake again. Life is a lesson that we keep learning as we go along.  I know for me, I do not want to go without love being a guiding force....and God is the greatest source of love, so why not listen to His guidelines for it? He knows better than anyone what love's capabilities are.  Peace does sound very nice, Richard...and a goal worthy to always work for in life.  xo Love n Hugs

" GOD, HELP US " to help ourselves ? Rather, than relying on hope, or promise, why not turn to the practical approach, born from living well, to instigate the best outcome ? There, is satisfaction, in that ? Surely ?
LIFE GIVES, TO YOU. You, know ? Be, at peace, with all around you. X

Yes!  It takes action and motivation to help ourselves....but being sure God is on board with what we are doing always guarantees success, than if we go at it alone....Satisfaction comes from doing things that honor our life and make it purposeful.  xo ;)

Hi beautiful girlfriend.  I was excited to see it was you on my page!  Yay!  I love the beach, and it serves to inspire creating a love poem...This is a very old poem that I rewrote to put in my poetry book coming out later this year.  I love to collect shells at the bach, and it seemed a natural way to meet a man doing things one enjoys that another does too. Soulmates find each other one way or another...lol  Thank you for your kind comments. xo ;)  Love n Hugs

My Dearest Cherie,

Such a beautiful story, of love lost, and then found again.  A Fairy Tale come true.

On the sunny endless beach one day, having given up all hope
She had a revelation, that showed her how to cope
"I must enjoy God's gifts of Nature, His bounty to us all"
So she breathed in the bracing salt air, and His name did she then call

.
A couple minutes later, she felt a hand her gently touch
She looked up, seeing a warm face, a man she could care for much
He said, "Forgive this oft used line, but I feel I have met you before
He pulled her up and they strolled off, her faith in love restored

All my love,
Larry xxx

Hi Larry....I like your "Forgive this oft used line"....lol....It is cliche...but I guess I am a hopeless romantic and hope that there is such a thing as recognizing love's face that is meant to be....like destiny.  I wrote this poem many years ago, and just recently revamped it a bit.  I love the beach, and it seems ideal to me to meet love in a place that already is romantic and relaxing...lol  I love all your verses...Thank you. xo Love n Hugs
