Poem -

MIGHT HAVE BEEN

MIGHT HAVE BEEN

I stand
One foot in one foot out
Epitome of
The uncommitted

Trepidation
Hesitant
I won’t come in
Baulked

Suffer the loss
Gift of the uncertain
Un-trophied
Prize of the none starter

Single toed in the water
One eyed peek at the light
Proponent of the coward’s
“better to never try than to fail”

“Oh I could have if I wanted”
“It was just too much trouble”
“They were only meant for me”
“ nobody would read these old things”

So I gather my words as offspring
Under a mother’s wing
Keep them from harm and sight
Until they grow old and smother

“Under the dead duck was found,
A cluster of worded dead ducklings”

This made me smile...let the words out I say.
Made me think...

"Things don't necessarily mean what the writer writes, they mean what the reader reads..." (my word....I feel a poem coming on)

Great piece John.
