Poem -

A Smile

She walks in as you see her,
wisdom traced across her face
the baggage and discards
etched in her soul
can be seen in her smile.

She brings with her
a life lived.
Her eyes tell the story.

Vainly
she tries to cover it all
but the make-up only
adds to the narrative.

We see herĀ
as we see ourselves
naked and transparent.
at onceĀ
we are terrified
and satisfied.

No longer are we
as alone as we thought.
the things we brought
as we entered the room
are shared with
every soul
who smiles at us.
