Poem -

A Night's Fairy Dream

A Night's Fairy Dream

Once upon a night’s fairy dream
Before conjuring Halloween
Fire graced upon such dainty wings
Of woodland sprites for glowing zing

A light of flame in orange glow
Bestowed such beauty, fairies know
But to strangers the light appeared
An apparition, causing fear

The sightings, called ignis fatuus
Danced elusive in their status
Bouncing here and there over bogs
Even frightening marshland frogs

Look through a magnifying glass
The mystery is solved at last
Tiny illuminated souls
Flit and fly with light’s bright extol

No ghost or spirit comes to haunt
Only fairies with rights to flaunt
Glowing acrobatic patterns
Then settling in Jack-o-lanterns

A smiling light through pumpkin face
Is lit by sprites in fun-time grace
And though they hide inside, unseen
Their glow is known on Halloween

Happy Halloween to all!  ;)

Hi Marion..Thank you so much!  I wanted to do something for Halloween but I am not one to do scary writes, so I just went with a more magical feeling one.  I have always been fascinated with the legends of the ignis fatuus and will-o-the -wisp legends of floating lights over marshes, and decided to use some creative liberty to make the lights be fairies at play...lol...Thank you for reading and your support.  I am glad you liked it. xo Love n Hugs

HI Leah!  Nice to see you on Cosmo! Thank you!  Happy Halloween to you too! I did not know what to write for Halloween because I don't know how to write a scary or macabre poem...so I went with a more magical fairy one...lol.. Love n Hugs!  xo ;)

Thank you, T!  Yes, you do have quite a few poems that are about fairies...I think this may be my first, and it is not near as elaborate or magical as the ones you have written...but I just wanted to do something to represent Halloween magic.  Thank you for saying it was "clever"...I love the legends of ignis fatuus and the glowing lights....(which probably are only gas making the light off of the wet marshes..lol)  It was fun making up my own explanation of the dancing balls of light...Love n Hugs, Cherie

Cheerie!
So fun, and wonderful!...and the poem, too! lol.
That was awesome! Love your mind, it's filled with such nice things, like love, and fairies, and kindness. You're really a fantastic person.
Beautiful story, and wonderfully penned.

Loved it.

L&H,

Matthew.

Hi Matthew!  Thank you!  ;)  I just could not do a scary Halloween poem...It would end up sounding like an episode from the "Care Bears" or "My Litlle Pony"....lol  I guess fairies can come out on Halloween and be a light for jack-o-lanterns....well, at least I let them for my poem.  It is fun doing narrative poems.  Thank you for your kind support.
Love n Hugs, Cheerie ;)

You're welcome!
You're so nice! (it's wonderful).
We'll get you doing some scary ones, though. Start out slow, with the Care Bears, and introduce Freddie Kruger into the Bear patch, but a nice Freddy, who just wants to shake their hands...and, of course, we know what Freddy's hands are like, and things turn a little messy, but then Nurse Ratchet from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest comes in to bandage them up...until Jack Nicholson comes in an goes nuts on her...well, you get the idea, it's fun, and slightly maniacal at the same time! KIDDING!!
It's awesome that you can only write sweet ones!! I love it! I wish the world was more like you!
Beautiful.
Matthew.

Lol....I don't know how you come up with such spontaneous and funny scenarios in your head....I would definitely have to ease into a scary write....and Jack Nicholson can be scary....like in "The Shining"....maybe peeking in at the ponies as they sleep in their barns holding an ax and going, "Here's Johnny!"....But true to my nature, instead of him hacking the ponies up with his ax, I would have them fly all around him and convert him into their sweet little pony cult or something.... See?  I just cannot do it!  I am glad you understand my tunnel vision when I write...lol  Thanks, M.  xo ;)

Lol....I don't know at all how to do scary.....Some on here are awesome at it...but if I tried it would sound phony and turn out funny....lol  But I do love fantasy and mythology and can delve right into those realms... You are imaginative for sure, Jill.  xo ;)
