One Last Time

She opens her eyes for another day, knowing it’ll be for one last time
She does her morning routine, knowing it’ll be for one last time
She lives her final day just like any other day
Because she doesn’t want anyone to be sad when she finally goes away
It becomes lunch time as she’s sitting on her couch for one last time
She eats just like any other day, captivated by her choices
Her family surrounding her, the beautiful music of their voices
As the night sky fills with deep brightened stars
She sits down at her table to eat her final meal
She knows after tonight, her family will be left with scars
She’s fought the battle as long as she could, her life God has chosen to heal
As she’s eating her last meal, she knows it’s for one last time
As she looks around her home, mesmerized by what she’s created
She lights a candle for one last time, her strength has become deflated
She gets down on her knees and prays for one last time
She hasn’t given up for the fight has just sadly begun
For the sorrow her family will soon reap upon
She looks around her darkened room
She knows she’ll close her eyes very soon
And when the sun rises tomorrow, she’ll be one of God's Angels
She stands above her body, for one last time
She hears the cries of her family, but she has to go
When the time comes, we will already know
That she fought the battle for as long as she could
But she will be remembered, for her courage and her efforts
For she has taught me everything I’ve ever needed
For when she says goodbye, another plant will be seeded
To here or there, she is lowered into the ground
We cover her coffin, with love and support all around
We know this day will be the final day as it’ll be for one last time

HOLY COW!! STEPHANIE!!.....this is one of the most intricately detailed suicide poems I've read in quite some time......the utter sadness and strength of will she exhibits....to watch her family's pain and still move on!!.....I can't tell if she's a weakling or a just all used up!?.....regardless, it IS a VERY compelling read....in its melancholy and sadness........well conceived and well delivered dear poet sister!!......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo : )
Thank you although it's not actually towards suicide. I'm losing an aunt to cancer and wanted to write something to help me understand why she has given up the fight. And to learn that people know when they are truly tired and have had enough pain and discomfort. I guess, I'll take the credit because after reading it again, I can fully understand the message you got! As I didn't think about it as I wrote it. I'm so pleased to know that this poem has many different meanings! Thank you so much for your thought out comment. It means a lot to me!
