Poem -

Rock is dead

Rock is dead

Rock is dead

Rock is dead; all covered in cherry red.
The towns’ roll and swing are gone,
Don’t worry as it’s only gone for so long.

A young-rockin’ boy was found dead in a lake.
News came around and people cried for his sake.
Little did they know that the boy played his drums
At a concert before his untimely death.
[His beat and tempos are all he left]

A young-rockin’ boy was found dead in a hotel room.
Radio stations announced and listeners pondered in gloom.
Little did they know that the boy played his guitar
At a concert before his untimely death.
[His rift and chords are all he left]

A young-rockin’ boy was found dead in a tube.
Sirens roared and civilians ran to the hub.
Little did they know that the boy played his keyboard
At a concert before his untimely death
[His rhythm and melodies are all he left]

A young-rockin’ boy was found dead in a bed.
Televisions informed and viewers clasped in dread.
Little did they know that the boy sang his voice
At a concert before his untimely death.
[His soul and words are all he left]

After their death,
Everyone believed that rock was dead.
The towns’ roll and swing were considered gone
But do not worry as it’s only gone for so long.

Hey everyone,

Long time no talk. I hope everyone and everything is doin’ alright, especially for the new year. I have recently published several poems: The Soft Parade (rough draft), Summer’s Love on a Summer’s Beach, The Man of the Hour and this one, Rock is dead. If you are curious about the idea and motivation of the Rock is dead poem, well, the phrase “rock is dead” is nothing new but I would believe every rock fan knows that rock is considered deceased and all have their interpretations of what that means; as for me, I wanted to write my own idea/belief of the demise of rock and I hope it’s not too daunting but nostalgic and optimistic. All and all I hope you enjoy this poem and keep on writing with your hands, mind and soul.

From,
A.J.M

Enjoyed your poem...hits on so many topics...the endlessness of rock, the misinterpretation of rock's importance in one's life, the short sighted perspective of a young person...

Rock may be dead to YOU, my friend.
But as far as I'm concerned, rock is alive and well and living inside of me.
I'm currently co-writing lyrics with Alecia 'Mixi' Demner, lead singer of the metal band, Stitched Up Heart:

I think you would enjoy their hit, "Finally Free". The video should be available at the link provided above.
If you've never heard them before you owe it to yourself to give them a listen.
There's also Metallica, Ice Age, Sheer Mag, Radiohead, Imagine Dragon...and the list goes on and on.
Long live Rock 'n' Roll!
