Poem -

Self Pity

Self Pity

This hall was once filled with light
Beauty found in every corner and in the spaces in between
My footsteps echo in the empty darkness
Beauty has turned to ruins
Scorch marks scar the walls
Dead flowers lay scattered among broken pottery
Painful reminders of a past that will never return
I fall to my knees the sobs never reaching reality
The familiar numbness once again takes over
My face lying in the ashes of my destruction
A memory of a song or perhaps the actual song
Reaches my ears
The rhythm so familiar like a word that is on the tip of your tongue
A face flashes before me and just as quickly is gone forever
How can something once so precious
Be lost so easily
Nary an argument
Not even the softest of whispers
My world is filled with such shadows
