Poem -

She was me

She was living in her own world, the queen of her dreams

Ruling the land from the mountains to the streams

She had everything under control, or so she thought

In the real world her body is in distraught.

She awakes from the place that brought her joy

To a place where there’s nothing left to destroy

Her eyes are groggy as she blinks

She sits on her bed just to think

What is her life really worth, to those around?

As she slips off her bed onto her feet, that’s when her head starts to pound

She makes her way out from her dampened room

Her house is alive and well, but she brings the gloom

The sun shines through the slightly opened curtains; it brings pain to her eyes

The real life to her, is everything she despise

A friendly reminder that years ago she lost her fuse

As she stares at her legs to see a bruise

Nothing makes sense to her anymore

She’s just a prisoner in her own war

She tries her best just to keep going,

In her mind she’s at a door, too scared to go in.

Daydreaming of the old days when she was nothing but a smiling child

So young, being reckless and wild

Nothing but laughter, and surround by love

When her eyes was used to the sun above

Back to reality, her dad is yelling at her

Happening so quickly, everything became a blur

“Wish you were more like him” the words piercing her ears

Trying to stay calm, fighting back her tears

The words go on, the yelling making her infuriated

Ends up making her feel hated.

She leaves in a hurry, with no place to go

Finding a place far away to woe

The sound of rushing water makes her calm

Loving the feeling of tiny rocks on her palm

She sits at a broken bridge, her feet hanging

Listening to the wood that is banging

Finding the beauty in wreckage, maybe that’s the key

She thought to herself “a wreck, just like me”

She heads up the river, to the waterfall

A place where she seems to stall

Day becomes night, not a call from her parents, not even a friend

She knew from the start she was alone until the end

Making her way home, in the dead of night

Wondering if she should fight or flight

She comes close to the door hearing the laughter, knowing it will stop as soon as she enters

She hesitates, thinking maybe she should go to some centres

Works up her courage, just to go in

Where she is greeted by a grin

She knew then that she was safe, for it was her brother

Bringing a smile to her face, like no other

He is all she needs to feel strong

Knowing that whatever she does is never wrong

These feelings he understands well, for he was always near

He hears her screams, that is so silent that it is crystal clear

Keeping an eye on her for many years

He’s the only one in the stand that cheers

Finding that one person, is all a person needs

The path to healing, the wisdom that leads

Caring for someone be it blood or not

There are people out there, in fact there’s a lot

Knowing that now, is something new

She spread her wings and flew

She was locked in, but she found the key

I tell you now she was me
