Poem -

"So tired now"

"So tired now"

Her head on my shoulder, an arm around my neck lying next to her on the pillow..
A gentle embrace from the woman who gave birth to me..
A silence broken by a 'sniffle'
a silence broken by a sob..
"I'm so tired now"
We said nothing but let our minds somehow think the same thoughts of joyful times together..
"I'm so tired now"
A trickling tear stung my cheek, I fought hard to skiffle my weep..I wanted to be brave for her as she was brave for me.
"I'm so tired now"
Our eyes met but it was like looking through mist mingled with a sting. We still said nothing.
"I'm so tired now"
The cruel disease was taking its toll now, nothing could I do to ease her pain. Just to be there was a comfort.
"I'm so tired now"
I could hear dad in the next room shuffling around, I heard him open the door. I closed my eyes so I couldn't see his pain to. He closed the door gently.
"I'm so tired now"
She was asleep, I crept silently from the room, I saw dad looking out if the window brush away a tear
"I'm so tired now"
I put my arm on his shoulder but we were both silent, I squeezed it gently and left.
"I'm so tired now"
Sleep now dear Mother, just sleep x

Took me back to when we sat and watched my father die. It's rough to watch them go.
