Poem -

The Approaching New Year

The Approaching New Year

Stepping out of bounds
In a snowdrift of sudden clarity
As if the charity of my life
Has a right to collect its due
Not in dollars, but in common sense
To mend the fences and bridges
That were never ever meant
To be broken from the start
In my heart, I know love has a home
If it can stop circling around lost
With consequences at great cost
And shake debilitating fear
To welcome the approaching new year
With sultry sparkle and pizazz
As if it has always had a spell it beheld
(Though, it has not held on very well)
Love can leave the chill of regrets behind
So the prospects in its promise
Can shimmer in their chivalry
And become so self-evident
As to equal a deserving trial
For a pursuit, worthwhile
In the time it has spent
Searching and seeking
All for the approaching new year

Great job describing the relationship, the love and the prospects of a great
New Year to come.

Favorite Part:

As if the charity of my life
Has a right to collect its due
Not in dollars, but in common sense"()All for the approaching new year"

Great way to begin a beautiful new year, full of new poems and memorable thoughts.

Hi Katina...Thank you.  I appreciate your elaborate comments. I think you quoted my favorite lines as I wrote them..lol  I think the decisions/choices we make can make drastic changes in our lives, and every action has a reaction or consequence, so to have fortunate prospects in love and life we have to be careful with our choices to assure our own fulfilling future, especially when changes are necessary to assure  a new  year will not be a repeat of mistakes.  Just my thoughts.  I hope you have a Happy New Year! xo ;)

Hellow,
I love this from beginning to end it got me from the beginning I felt the
wistful nature of this write.. I think the word would be melancholy  and that as time and years go by we re evaluate what is important and what is not so much,  Our dreams and our nightmares all get a moment to recall and then if we are smart we leave the bad behind and go on into a new year,, taking with us the good ,..
Happy V

Hi Violet...That is the perfect summation of my thoughts...To re-evaluate what is important is crucial for change and to not repeat mistakes.  To hold onto a past of pain does not do anyone good....but in order to not make the same mistakes sometimes change is necessary.  A new year reminds us of second chances and new decisions that can make a difference.  I wish you a Happy New Year!  Thank you for your thoughtful comments xo ;)

Hi Greg...Awww...I know how you feel.  It is hard to not live with regrets and things we wish we could do differently.  But we cannot change the past, only make decisions today and forward to try to shape our lives the best we can that will fulfill our purpose.  I think if we ask God's will and are sincere to listen, He does help guide us....but human nature is to do our own thing and make decisions a bit blindly and haphazardly...and there are always consequences for doing so,  All we can do is hope from today and days forward to make necessary changes and live the best we can at the point we have come to.  Our decisions and choices do make such a huge difference in how our lives play out.  I wish you the best for the new year, Greg.  Love n Hugs xo

Happy New Year, Larry!   I hope you and Linda have the best year ever together.  This time of year is bittersweet for many who have either lost love or seek love, or have memories that are painful.   And yet,  the new always offers hope for a better year for the lonely hearted.  Love n Hugs. xo
