Poem -

The Beast Within

The Beast Within

A savage look reflects the unnrestrained nature
Stirring within his animalistic wild heart
His intentions unclear, but circumspect
Brazen, fearless, yet wielding intellect
Upon knees, I must approach cautiously
The one sizing me up in competition
Though, I offer no threat or hint of intimidation
I simply want to touch that which intrigues me
He who causes me to question who I am
And why he commands my respect
As if he is on the brink of extinction
A beast misunderstood and hunted
Confronted by the world's disgusted views
He feels used and forced to distrust
Slowly, I reach out to feel this beast of burden
Wondering if with delight he will bite
Cursing my curiositiy for certain
But surprisingly, he does not bare teeth at all
Instead, his eyes open wide
Filled with flowing familiar emotions
Mimicking a mirror to my own
Then under the cover of night
What felt wild transitions into tame
Revealing the beast dormant within me
And now, I am forever changed

I was going to say it was about time you stopped all this palaver writing about Tony and then I realised you hadn't! Beautiful poem, exquisitely phrased. Thank you.

Lol....Hi Barry...I can write about other things....As a newlywed, Tony is in the forefront of my thoughts and so inspiring.....But it is nice to write of other things too...lol This poem to me represents how easy it is to judge what we do not understand...It can be a wake up call to look within ourselves to see how similar and alike we are to others when we look past the superficial things.  I am so happy you liked it.  Thank you. xo ;)

Johnny Cash’s “Beast Within” is one of my favorite songs, as I relate to it in so many ways.  I truly enjoyed this

Hi Greg....That's right! I know that song.  I think we all judge others from what little we know and sometimes miss what is inside our own souls....a commonality to the very essence we think we do not understand...We all feel and have emotions and things that hurt us...We react in ways that seem rebellious in pain.  If we take time to truly understand the truth, we may just see a mirrored reflection of ourselves.  Thanks for your support. xo ;)

You, my lady Cherie are such a joy to read just for the fact that you are open and broad-minded. I don't think there is one lick of bias or racism in your bones. I love how you can lay open all with your honesty and openness. You are one exceptional Lady.

Hi Lisa....Awwww, Thank you!  I do not like to see people misjudging one another nor labeling each other a certain way. I am touched by your assessment of me.  I try to see my fellow man/woman the way God does...by the heart.  I admire the beautiful soul you are!  You inspire me!  I am blessed to have your kind support.  Love n Hugs, xo Cherie ;)

Hi Sis Nardine...Thank you....I think if we judge others we are in essence judging ourselves....We are all connected, and the beast is within if we develop prejudices and hurt others with our views.  Just my thoughts that became a metaphor.  Thank you for reading and supporitng my work, sis.  Love n Hugs xo

My Dear Cherie,

The Beauty touched the Beast's wild heart
One kiss, and he was tamed
Their Souls then bonded instantly
He would never be the same

.
But with his change, came her change too
For she felt a feral flush
As the Beast within her blossomed
When into his arms she rushed

All my love,
Larry xxx

Hi dear Larry....I like how you turned this into a "Beauty and the Beast" kind of romance.....lol...Opposites attract and when we take time to look beyond the differences, we find a commonality that is alluring and revealing as to who we are. I am always enlightened by your poetic responses....I see how my poetry is perceived by others and it is reassuring.  Thank you..... Love n Hugs xo

You just made me smile, Love....I needed that validation from you right now...Thank you!  We all can find ourselves in another if we take time to see their spirit within that we can relate to....compassion and care come when we see how we are all connected...Just my thoughts here....I want you proud of me and I am trying to write from an emotional standpoint....Love you...xo ;)
