The Deathlike Trance

The Ghost of Love

The Deathlike Trance

I can mildly smile, and give polite response
To convince myself I’m alive, somewhere inside
My eyes comprise a glimmer of hope’s swirled strain
Amidst floodgates of tears of my waterfall’s rain
No one knows at all, if I give convincing grin
Of my riling pain, nor the sorrow within
As if tomorrow may never come to save today
I feel the grave, (my naïve heart dug long ago)
And I walk the perimeter of the hole’s abyss
I wonder if wounds can heal from a delayed kiss
Or if something in me, will forever stay amiss
I call out to the void that holds my fragile heart
Remembering love’s once sweet painted scene
Like a meticulously hidden work of art
Can I repaint the purity of perfect fantasy?
Or will the craving for what could have been
Remain a brooding apparition inside of me?
I invite the ghost of love to use me as its host
Haunting me, evocatively, searching for love’s word
That can cure the deathlike trance, cruelly diagnosed

Hi Marion...Thank you.  I am honored that you pinned this...I find pain inspirational in aspects of love and life....a haunting reminder of how deeply we feel when we love, suffer loss, and hold on despite how tormented we are....I am always inspired to write about love in all its aspects on how it affects our emotions.  I am glad you got the sad heartbreak of this one's intent.  xo ;)

A Lonely Journey

OK Cheerie,
You being the Most Wonderful Person Ever Invented and holding several love crowns, including Godess of GLove(love didn't have a 'g' on it to match goddess, hence, glove), Empress of Emotion, Angel of Affection, and Dutchess of Devotion, that was awfully hard to read, but beautifully written.
I hope you're never in pain because you're wonderful, and I completely understand how life devours dreams, but not from you! You're too great.
Anyway, you're a fantastic writer, and that was another beautiful poem.
Thank you for all the emotion, and heartfelt poetry, and kindness you give so tirelessly to this site. I hope you see how EVERYONE loves you!
My favorite lines are these:

'I can mildly smile, and give polite response
To convince myself I’m alive, somewhere inside
My eyes comprise a glimmer of hope’s swirled strain
Amidst floodgates of tears of my waterfall’s rain'

They just break my heart, but are beautifully expressed.
Very hard, but honest, sad write.

Love and hugs always,

Matthew.

PS. You will be OK.

Hi Matthew....Thank you, as usual for your caring support of my poetry.  You know me, ....I am a very emotional writer and my work comes from inspiration.  Even in sadness, those feelings of love can haunt and feel like a ghost not letting go.  I know you understand the sadness that can be cathartic in writing.  Your sad poems are beautiful.  Thank you for being my friend.  Love n Hugs, xo Cheerie ;)

" GHOST STORIES " whether from Norfolk, or not, can be " haunting " or taunting. The allure of the fateful apparition in " The Dark " being of romantic origin.....or, some " thing " else, entirely. You, have to know, for your own sake, what " the hell it is " you are " looking " at. :) :) The sensual pleasure must not lead you in to a TRAP, of your own making perhaps !! Do not be led astray by the wants and needs of....the OTHER SIDE ( eternal battle, considered ). Love can be fated, you know. More, than any I suspect. :) :)
X !
If, you are worried. You, know who to call. BFM. !!!  :)

Hi Richard...Thank you.  ;)  I like to use the imagery of ghosts or apparitions as a metaphor for love that holds on and haunts the mind...sometimes keeping one from understanding life in the present without some kind of healing that must occur first....I always appreciate your elaborate commentary, and read them as a puzzle of clues you present...Love n Hugs, xo ;)

" You have to know what you are looking at ! " The ghosts, of past romance, teach us in far more ways than can be conceived, naturally. The " essence " of the soul gains from encounters with others. The sum of all we experience, leading us to make better judgements about who to be with. To feel more. To be more. And, find the best place for us.
YOU, MUST KNOW WHAT IS " SPECIAL " ! What, gives you most.
Thanks for conveying truth, through love.
Thanks for being there all those years. To embolden us with your " terms of endearment " guiding the searching, yearning spirit. To sense wonder.

Hi Richard.  I totally agree that the ghost of love's past do teach us so much, even when they are painful to recall....That sum of all experiences do hopefully  lead us to make better judgments in who we love...so that we do not get hurt....There is a special love if we wait for it to stir our soul....in a way that we can recognize as healing and good.  I am touched by your comments.  I hope to always convey love to readers in a way that is relatable and emotional.   You have been there from the start to encourage me...Thank you so much.  Love n Hugs, xo

You, have been the foundation of continuing zeal to improve writing capabilities. Each, who has gained from your commitment, knows all too well how important your role has been, in their lives, and, in the progress of Cosmo !!
Bless you. For, your work. And, for being an ever-present " source " of inspiration, and, motivation. To help find peace and comfort, in the bosom of literary expression.
P.s Do not ride the crazy Cyborg Horse !!! We want you, here, as long as possible. Look after yourself....in the right way ! Not, being thrown from a " bouncing Buck-a-rooney " !!! That would seem silly, after going so far.

Wow Richard!  You just gave me the most motivational speech right when I needed to hear it.  Thank you.  I love to write, and I hope to reach others through my work.  I do feel like my poetry is such a personal part of me and I am giving a part of myself to others when I write.  The world baffles me, and my escape is through my writing....Bless you for telling me you want me here, as long as possible...That "Cyborg Horse" does distract me sometimes...lol.  I will try to stay the course without being thrown on a bumpy, bucking ride...although I may not be on here as much in the future....I do care about my peers on here and love to learn and be inspired by the work on here.   Bless you.  You have no idea how your words just helped me.  xo Love n Hugs

Love seems so far away, perhaps buired beneath the "abyss", with concrete and steel holding firm it's suffocating heart. I love, I love my wife and child and I create love but with so much death in this present era, I feel I'm praying into a black hole.

Sadness has risen in Ireland, like the dawning of a black sun, children lost once again to the conflicted mind.

Your poetry makes me feel again Cherie, but sometimes it makes me sad and I guess sadness is feeling.

HI Gerard....There always seems to be sadness mixed in with blessings.  I feel like my prayers are being stacked with the masses.  I am sorry that Ireland is suffering.  I guess it is good that my poetry makes you feel, and I do not mean to be a downer....just a lot of emotions that I relate to inspired this right now.  I do appreciate your kind support.  Love will always be my focus in life, even when it hurts.  xo ;)
