The Gossip (Spoken Word)

The Gossip (Spoken Word)

My business is my business,
not your business, not her business.

So why does everybody seem
to be aware of MY business!

One person knew.
So off they flew,
to their friend, and the friend
didn't feel like the end.
And on and on it goes,
now everybody knows!

But it's MY business, not your business,
not his business, not her business.

If I drop my pen,
I hear whispers down the halls,
"Did you hear?" "Did you know?"
"Did you see?" "Goodness me!"
"That the pen that she dropped was red?"

"Did you hear?" "Did you know?"
"Did you see?" "Goodness me!"
"Did you hear?" "Did you know?"
"Did you see?" "Goodness me!"
"Is it true?" "Did she do..."
"Can you believe!"  "Up her sleeve!"

This repeats! This repeats!
And it's all I can hear!
Please stop! Please stop!
Your filling me with fear!

'Cause my business is my business,
not your business, not her business.
It's my business.

*****

Now I'm walking down the hallway,
I feel your eyes, piercing my back.
I know what it is you all say.
And it's kind of true, I do tend to slack.

I want to say you're all mistaken,
but I second guess myself.
I feel pain and I start quakin'
I want to hide inside myself.

It's like I'm trapped,
in this deep, dark pit,
and it's all because you yapped.
I'd like to throw my hands up and quit!

And yet, you STILL don't seem to understand,

That my business is my business,
not your business, not her business.

It's my business.
