Poem -

The Horse Whisperer

The Horse Whisperer

He is proudly called a - ‘Horse Whisperer’
More accurate to say he is a horse listener
Attentive to study the horse’s perspective
Of how they think, feel, and what is effective

An equine trainer with a gentle touch
His submission methods are never rushed
Psychology used over conventional means
Just a humble man, in his sweat and blue jeans

With patience, he works to rehabilitate
A mare, whose fears he hopes to eliminate
He calms her with his hands, and earns her trust
Walking in circles: a man and horse in corral dust

No physical restraints are used of any kind
To control this wild creature to make her mind
Respect and communication by soothing hands
Are the only tools necessary to take command

I watch in fascination as the once skittish mare
Releases stress and follows him everywhere
He runs his caring hands down her soft flank
And she lowers her head in submissive rank

Pushing into his chest with her velvety muzzle
He cradles her head and welcomes her nuzzle
Then he releases his grip and sits on the ground
With his back to her, still, not making a sound

The mare curiously approaches his direction
Comes up behind him, gives a kiss of affection
She sits down close behind him, and there she stays
Leaning over his head with soft nickers and neighs

I am moved by their respect and understanding
A bonding love so tender and not demanding
This unique relationship, not strained or course
Makes me want this man, or at least be his horse!

Hi Marion. Yes, animals deserve respect and gentleness and love, just as we do. I love so much to watch the horse whisperer cowboys work with horses....There is such magic passing between them of understanding, curiosity and connection. It is a real gift. I think one day in the new world, we will all be able to communicate with animals and live in respect. My mother always told me that I should marry a horse whisperer, because she said I need a man that understands my deep love for animals and especially horses, and in order for me to understand a man, he has to love horses. Lol xo Thank you. xo ;)  (((hugs))))

Wow what an excellent write about the horse whisperer. It helped me understand their role better with the descriptive rhyme you cleverly put. And how important it is to get the respect and communication between them that takes time and patience. As I'm not around horses or any animals I am unfamiliar with these kinds of thoughts. So for me it was a truly insightful piece. Thank you Cherie. Px 💜

Hi Pratubha. Thank you. It is a real flattering comment since you are not familiar with the role between The Horse Whisperer and the horse to understand it through my poem. I love Cowboys but especially the gentle kind of man that knows how to communicate with the horse without using any kind of force to control it. This usually means in other areas of their life they are very gentle and patient as well. The actor Patrick Swayze that died used to train horses and love them very much. He was really good with them. I love the movie called The Horse Whisperer in which Robert Redford plays the man who is working with the horses and has that gentle quiet personality. These kind of men influence this poem. I love animals and horses have always especially spoken to my heart. I always appreciate your kind support and comments. Bless you. :-) XO

Being Me

Hi Cherie! This is a lovely poem! On the surface it is about training horses in the best and most natural way but dig a bit deeper and I cannot help but feel that it is metaphorical. Metaphorically romantic 😉 xx

Hi Tina. Thank you. I like how you pointed out training a horse in a "natural" way, because the conventional ways that horses are "broken" is not natural at all and goes against their nature. It takes a gentle hand and compassionate heart to use patience and understanding to communicate with the horse on their level. I have a lot of respect for a man who has that special gift and natural gentleness and care in his spirit.

Oh, you know me .....I always see things in a romantic kind of view...lol. xo  Love n Hugs

Hi Purple Passionate friend. I know you understand, There is a special bond between animals and man. They are so beautiful. I am so happy that you and Ducky are bonding and have that special connection in just four months. He will get more and more personality that he will show to you as  you two have experiences together.  I miss working with horses and having that special bond. I will always be enamored of their beauty and grace and inquisitive minds. I love to see the horse whisperer type cowboys that really understand their emotions and have such a gentle relationship. It just touches me to see.  xo Love n Hugs ;)
