Poem -

The Power of Goodbye

Inspired by Madonna's song...

The Power of Goodbye

When he becomes a lesson you have to learn
Standing as his faithful fortress for him to burn
It is time to try the power of goodbye

When pain only surges through your naive veins
And to give and give out is a constant drain
It is time to try the power of goodbye

When you hurt much worse than you can ever heal
And you are punished for how deeply you feel
It is time to try the power of goodbye

When you loathe his lacked sense of morality
And your heart suffers from such brutality
It is time to try the power of goodbye

When his reckless behaviors take precedence
And he defends his desires of decadence
It is time to try the power of goodbye

When you cry, begging for his love and respect
But find it is only his ego he protects
Admitting no wrong becomes his denial song

It is time to try the power of goodbye
There is perfect peace, in the power of goodbye
For emotional release, learn to say goodbye

*Inspired by Madonna's song, "The Power of Goodbye"
which I have been listening to a lot the last 24 hours
I love the song! If video does not work paste this link:

This Cherie is amazing, I have pinned it because you have explained so well the emotions that colour a doomed love. When loving someone is just an instrument of our own torture ..it is as you say...time to say goodbye...hugs my friend 💕

Thank you, Marion. I believe we can love to our detriment and have to know when we have had our limit on being hurt. Self preservation has to step in and be rational over the heart. I am honored that you pinned this. Thank you. ;) xo Love n Hugs

Being Me

Love this!  I know now that I should've said goodbye years before my marriage ended...but I just couldn't see it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think had I read your poem back then, it may have made me think more about doing it. Great write, Cherie. I love the repeat of

It is time to try the power of goodbye

It really works x

Hey Tina. I think it is so hard to let go when you have your emotions invested and are used to a way of life. I am sorry you were hurting in your marriage. You are a brave and courageous woman to restart her life and make that change that is so hard. There really is power in goodbye when there is no way to heal.  Thank you. Love n Hugs, xo

I consider anyone who can get away from pain when you love someone but it hurts, to be deserving of respect and seen as courageous. ((hugs)) back. ox ;)

Hi Jill. Thank you. I am glad you liked it so well. I always liked that song by Madonna of same title as my poem, and the video. I like actor, Goran Visnjic that is featured in her video as the one hurting her and playing chess...lol. Love is like a chess game with strategic moves, and they often can be hurtful, especially if one is careless in their actions. Thank you for the pin. xo Love n Hugs

A Lonely Journey

Cheerie,
That is sad, but beautifully written.
You are the reason I have finally, successfully, refuted Frost's Nothing Gold Can Stay creation! It had confounded me for years, until I saw your wonderful comments on here, and thought 'Wow! Mr. Frost, I may have a golden opportunity here!' Then, I got to know you, and realized that something Gold remains, always, and it's your heart.
I'm not sure why good people have a lot of heartache in life(as your poem seems to masterfully indicate here), but I think, maybe, that in this little stop along a soul's journey, it may be to show us the intense difference between what could be, and what you will receive from being the person you are, so you can so appreciate an eternity of happiness, which you deserve immensely.
Your poem is heartachingly beautiful. Pain expressed so remarkably.  I hate to say I like any lines in a poem which appears to express pain in your life(but I'm hoping it's just writing). Anyway, here are some of the lines which touched me:

'When you hurt much worse than you can ever heal
And you are punished for how deeply you feel'
(Wow, that is deeply sad, and dispirited, but gorgeous writing)

and:

'When he becomes a lesson you have to learn
Standing as his faithful fortress for him to burn'
(again, wow. You really, really captured true hurt in words).

Beautifully written poem, as always, Cheerie.
The song is great, too.
Now, go listen to You Are So Beautiful, and you'll know how we all feel about you.

Love and hugs,

Matthew.

Hello Matthew. Well, once again you write with such intuitive comments that I do not know how to respond. I am glad you are my friend and understand my heart. Thank you. That song by Madonna haunts me now. I always liked it but it has personal meaning to me. When you love someone and it feels volatile all the time, it is damaging to the spirit. In that video, Madonna portrays that scenario well...She loves him but he hurts her spirit...does not respect her if you listen to the lyrics. But he is controlling her and she is learning that sometimes goodbye is the only way to have power and healing.  I based my write on that song and video.  I would like to go hear the old, "You Are So Beautiful" song by Joe Cocker and try to feel that way in my spirit. Thank you.  You are the best. Love n Hugs, Cheerie ;)

Hi John. Thank you. I like to change up my poems in themes, and sadness is definitely a part of love when it hurts and it is time to say "goodbye" to heal and recover.  I appreciate your kind support. xo ;)

Hi Pratibha. I am glad that you have not had experience in that kind of pain. I am happy you are married and with a baby that is a secure kind of love to have. The song by Madonna always haunted me with how she portrays a love that hurts and she wants out but seems mesmerized by him...but ultimately says there is power in goodbye to regain your self-respect and integrity after being hurt so much. I wanted to capture that in my write. Thank you for all your kind support. xo Love n Hugs

Thank you, Tony. I appreciate that you pinned it. I have been listening to that song by Madonna over and over again...and feeling the lyrics to it and it totally helped me write this. I feel deeply when I write and it is good that others can relate and maybe understand in that moment that they read my work what it is I feel. xo ;)
