Valentines in a Vault

Valentines in a Vault

It’s a random consequence, and nobody’s fault
When sad memories put Valentines in a vault
Love’s bittersweet, secret defeats, tend to stay
Persuading security to go away

It’s a lovely thought, to get caught up in romance
And truthfully, every soul should take that chance
Yet vulnerability vexes Valentines
Crossing love’s comfort into callous lines

Vows and good intentions revere love, held up high
But unforeseen circumstances cause some to cry
Wisps of wonder, whispers of wanting, stir the heart
And, some lucky loves last until death do them part

It’s so easy to believe love lasts forever
Cupid’s swift bow and arrows zing quite clever
But the Cherub of Love never sticks around
When broken hearts are scattered upon the ground

That’s why there will always be a palpable place
Where hearts are swept up in safekeeping’s sad space
A reminder of kinder times of love’s exalt
Memories locked up, as Valentines in a vault

HI Frantic Free-Verser.....Exactly!  You sum it up well.  I still believe it is true what the old adage says, "It is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.".... Love profoundly changes a person forever.  Even if the memories that hurt are kept in a vault in the mind forever.  Love by its nature cannot help but to  effect the heart.  It is the only thing we take with us when we die, so it has to be profoundly important to experience.  Thank you for your support.  xo ;)

Better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all....
I think that was the English poet Alfred Tennyson who said that...
I also think love can replenish itself.

You are right!  Love by its nature only wants to give and takes its lumps in doing what it is designed to do....lol  xo ;)

HI Jill.  Love is something that everyone should experience, whether they get hurt or not, because it is the most powerful force in this world, because it was created by a  Creator who is love....As humans, we fall and get hurt, but are always drawn to that inescapable draw of love.  I think God wants us to learn in life through its many lessons.  Valentine's Day can be bittersweet for some when there are memories and loss of people we love too.  Thanks, Jill.  xo Love n Hugs

Being Me

Cupid has a lot to answer for sometimes. As someone whose Valentines are locked very securely in that vault (at the bottom I think), I love this, Cherie  x

Lol...Yes, Cupid does not stick around after he zings and zaps people's hearts with the love arrows...Relationships with humans is very complicated and we can be our own worst enemies....but love is still very much worthy to pursue even as we get hurt sometimes.  The vault holds those memories that shape how we feel about our sad or hurtful love experiences.  But new experiences should not be denied if they come along...lol Thank you.  xo ;)

HI Greg..Thank you.  Happy Valentine's Day to you.   What a lovely poem...The sun does indeed shine on them all ....We are like flowers in that we all have different seasons to bloom and different colors and experiences in the sun and rain...but all are loved by a Creator that designed them to be pretty and appreciated.  Love n Hugs, xo ;)

" You, get what you are given ! "
On, Valentines Day, you expect to be given a little more. Obviously.
" Who said " romance " is dead ? " You, know, it, not to be true.
The ways of the " peace-full warrior, " strutting like a " proud Peacock " determines the mating " games " !
Courtship, is displayed with the verve of a " seafarer " peddling crab-sticks. The protein content, alone, beating " sales " conformity. You, must establish what is good, for you !!  :)
Lifestyle choices are put aside for " recreational " and, " habitual " interests. To make time irrelevant. To make " breathing-space " within the comforting " playful " escape. Sometimes, far distant from expectation. How nice ?
Leaving preconceptions at the door..." IN THE NAME OF, LOVE !! "
You, too, grasp " the bull, by the horns " to seek solace in historical re-inactment, or, that more contemporary, in " NATURE " !! :)
Choices, are wonderful, to hold onto. Are they not ?
For, memories which deliver greater effects as aging progresses ! Bringing, it all, into perspective.
Great, write. Telling you so much. Of, what can happen. On the " Big " Day.
When loving statements come into their own !!
X  :)

Hi Richard,
It is funny how our choices in life later become memories, and dictate how we view love from those experiences.  As we get older, memories do become more precious to us and we view things a bit differently from what we have learned.  Love is definitely a learning process all of our lives.  Happy Valentine's Day to you and  yours. xo ;)

Exactly,  as the saying goes: give love to get love and keep it be bitter or sweet.
Sadly for me; I'm still waiting LOL
Beautiful poem and thanks for sharing.
Happy Valentine's day to you and your family.
