Poem -

Unhappiness

You work as nurse.
Your calves hurtĀ
From being on your feet so long.

When you go homeĀ
Are there cats waiting?
No gentleman, though.

Dinner will be a microwave lasagna,
Your last Mexican beer.
Nevermind you have to turnĀ

The corridor light on
To see in your fridge.
And maybe in all those yearsĀ

A man nextdoor you might even haveĀ
Made a life withĀ
Is proposing to a woman,

Much less of a woman than yourself,
You think.
Sometimes you feel stillĀ

Like you're 26Ā
And life owes you a thing.
You read for fun,

Play a little guitar and the cat's name'sĀ
Are Star trek characters.
Who knows, even unhappinessĀ

Is just around the corner?

Ā

I loved that Rory! It's sad, yet hopeful, beautiful writing! M.Ā

Oh Rory, sadly reality for so many, I have a friend who is a nurse in London who missed the boat so to speak, and now has cats, she does travel though, how ironic she has to worry about who feeds them while she is away. Such a wake-up piece, powerful imagery and emotion. Bravo bravo, ps did you mean happiness is just around the corner? Just checking and is the cats name spok? Oh you always get me curious 🌹

It's a kind of sequel to the Happy poem that came before it, so it is Unhappiness, as in, she's just too wise to feel she is owed something, and all well, it could always be worse. I suppose to sum up, the poem's about gratefulnessĀ

I'll tell you this for nothing Sherley H, it's not getting easier, living up to your expectations... Lol. Seriously though, it's an element that plays on the mind, no matter how smallĀ

I don't know how to properly comment on this. For me it is outstanding... real. Dont we all have periods like this where nursing self reflection with a beer is the order of the day... x
