Gratitude

I wait not for the rose to bloom,
as yesterday’s buds
already left a fragrance in the air I breathe,
and when the night’s cold touches my limbs
right down to the bones,
I do not fret, as my skin already knows
the warmth of the sun.
As seasons pass
I still can hear the laughter
of my youth’s reckless days
and the days of mirth will not be forgotten,
I, too, was young once.

A truly beautiful write you lovely soul you ❤
Happy you like it, lovely lady. Your words are heartwarming.
Stay well, Marion.
This has overtones of "a la recherche du temps perdu." The fragrance that lingers in the air, the sun's warmth, the laughter and the mirth are all still a part of the writer's contemporary life. And as long as they are, as the seasons, a metaphor for the stages of life, pass not only will the writer know they were young once, they will also experience it through the senses. Beautiful poem.
Hi Bernie, the Marcel Proust's novel?
Maybe we're grateful for still having our memories.
When someone says I am getting old and it sucks, I think yes, we are,
but its not like we missed the boat. We were young once.
I am happy having this discussion with you. B
P.S. Thank you for the review, I like the way you see this.
Yes that one. And yes we should be grateful for memories whether they be reality or our through a lens version of it.
Always good to have a discussion. Thank you.
“ I two was one young”. So true. But, you’ve traded youth for wisdom.
Great write.
John
Wisdom is a gift. As we know, old age does not guarantee wisdom. We just have to
keep our minds and heart open and let the light in. And maybe one day we can
say we are much older and a little wiser. I wait for this day.
Thank you for reading my work, John. Always much appreciated.
Bernadete
Beautifully crafted Bernadete. Although not always effortless to find, gratitude is such a vital virtue. 'I wait not for the rose to bloom', as though heaven has always been present. Eloquently graceful.
'Forever Young.' Lovely Verse. 🩵
And graceful are your words, Ian.
Yes, its all about gratitude. We all have something to be grateful,
for now or for way back. For growing old (still here and still kicking).
Its a feeling to be cultivated, you put it very well in saying that it is
a vital virtue. Thank you Ian for being part of this reflection.
Stay well and take care,
Bernadete
