Sedges haver edges

Sedges haver edges

A dream of moon on this our Lady’s night,
lends the river a quiet flow.
Reflections on its surface are almost
perfect, would be if they were not
constantly
moving out of
place…

Down dream I rest among the sedges,
listening to night’s warblers
telling each other
of the best places to find fodder for their young
(or perhaps they are weaving spells to quiet fears).

Further downstream a weeping willow
cools her leaves after all those tears,
the river’s waters are soothing her sorrows,
while at the same time a sparrow
wakes up disturbed and chitters
a warning to not rob her nest.

(Still down dream I wonder if
the warning would not be for
me
…)

An owl hoots a glimmer on the horizon,
day is coming and I remember that
at sun’s rising
a new year offers us her days,
summer, fall, winter, spring.

I will embrace them, bid them
welcome and open my eyes
even more
(so I hope)

You used the river as a metaphor for embracing the seasons of your
life.  And when you say ...open my eyes even more (so I hope),
you're giving a warning to yourself? Very interesting write, John.

Well, you found me out, I indeed try to better myself but have serious doubts I won't fall again and again. Too much world so easily gets between me and good intentions... However, the Lady be with me (I am not someone who likes being lorded over - my mother was a serious feminist in lots of ways 🤣😎). Thanx for the kind words

How very beautiful, narrated with an incredible amount of softness, I think this is one stunning dream of reflection, how indeed we are lucky enough to embrace lady days as she wishes us to enjoy, so much beauty in this so many metaphors and I love the way the new day embraces, mesmerising poem. 🌹

Thank you, to think I started out my bath watching a Youtube vlog by someone explaining stuff about sedges and how they differ from grasses. He even quoted a rhyme (hence the title), then it all fell in with one or two fragments of lines that came up while discussing life with the wife with the hearth lit on a wet morning last Thursday (a day of from the office for it being a Christian holiday 😅) I love to write in the bath. I tend to try to slink away from living, so I have to keep telling me to participate in the Goddess given days 😱🤗🤣
