Raven on the Road

From my Raven Collection

Raven on the Road

Ā
Ā
He was there right in front of me
he was the first thing I saw
on that particular early morning sunrise
Ā
Raven, standing on the roadĀ
almost as if he was waiting for me
reminding me before my flight
to keep my feet on solid ground, once I arrived
how he knows me so well
Ā
It was a tour of sortsĀ
the ghosts I’d visit in my time on home soilĀ
I did it, I went back in timeĀ
I went down streets of memories
I went back to all that haunted me
I took a good look aroundĀ
I felt their presence Ā
and I felt that terribly dark-colored aura Ā
Ā
It’s taken me fifty years to realize
those ghosts must be left
in the very dust of time
where they belong
where they’ve been laying all these years
after all, I can’t change the past
nobody can
Ā
and if by luck or chanceĀ
I see the Raven when I return home
I shall tell him so.

I love the third stanza. Haunting familiar streets, the trauma left unknown, and to say the truth in those streets as it is I can feel the rain of EnglandĀ

The Raven's croak is always a good way in, though to me it is not a wise thing to leave the ghosts in the past. My wife and me, we are witnessing the return of ravens to our patch of home country (rare still, but we heard and saw one last Saturday out in the woods). You help me decide I must continue working on the poem he/she started offšŸ™šŸ˜Ž. Alas, little time now for it is a hectic period at the office and the summer holiday up in two weeks (5th time Veneto for usāœŒļøšŸ¤£šŸŒŸ). Strangely I did not see the last three on your profile, I only came across the Raven by looking up you "about" me...Ā

Yes, but we'll be camping out near Vitorio Veneto. For our 1 day Venice we'll take the train out (as we did 3 times earlieršŸš‰). We are at a pivot point for. MOUNTAINS and beachā›°ļøšŸ–ļø... See you

I see your dilemma as it's so hot, depends if you like swimming or lunching in the coolness of the surrounding mountains I suppose. Have a wonderful time with your beloved wife. 🌹

My Raven is my guide through grief, I recently went home and I realized my grief wasn't just for lost loved ones who passed away but I also realized that my entire life I've been fighting for the affection of the others in my family, which has never been there, and now i know. It took me 50 years but I'm there now, so I came back home to Florence and felt incredibly grateful to have found unconditional love from the people I have chosen.Ā
Thank you my dear Marion. 🌹
