Snow

Snow falls softly on the window sill. A cold breeze whispers by me, carrying the delicate flakes. It’s no longer snowing but the wind has been swirling with snow from the trees. The night is silent except for the light rustling of the trees. I slide into my fur lined boots, basking in their warmth. It’s a sharp contrast to my bare legs and arms; my shorts and a tank top don't provide much cover. I don’t mind though, I enjoy the brisk chill the settles on my skin. Taking one last look at my warm bed, I step out onto the roof. The carpet of snow compresses under my boots with a satisfying crunch. I pull a few loose curls behind my ear and look up. The winter sky is clear, and the stars brilliance stand out against the pitch black. It’s... beautiful… The endless universe spread out before me in all it’s glory. Some people feel small or insignificant when gazing into its expanse, but all I feel is peace...and curiosity.  What other wonders exist out there waiting to be discovered. Could there be other intelligent life forms? Wondering if they’re alone in the universe? Tranquil questions ebb and flow through my mind. Soft footsteps echo into the night air; my parents are coming upstairs. I climb back in through my window, slipping out of my boots. I quietly shut my window and slide under my covers. Warmth lingers in the blankets and it starts to thaw my frozen limbs. I shut my eyes and fall fast asleep. Not even waking when my door creaks open and shuts as my parents check on me.
