Sacrifice

Lord,  I have sinned 

Make no mistake

Here I am 

In the prison of humanity 

Before these fractious idols 

Where is my intention, 

As I kneel down

Away from materialism

I look inwards suddenly 

Begging for clemency

These statues before me

With their evil eyes

Their pouting lips 

They are not real

I stumble before thee 

A man on his knees 

In the monastery upon the hill

God of our fathers

In prayer, in silence 

In meditation, 

Before the great battle

Of swords and horses 

The clanging armour 

In the great empire Rome

Where we have all sinned 

As I have sinned 

Upon this silver sword

This search for forgiveness

With the clanging armour 

The stranglehold of the enemy

The pressure of the fist 

The blood pouring from the eye

The knife through the heart

In this great battle

Of idolatory

Sitting silently in this monastery 

In prayer, in meditation

In despair 

Brought before the Lord

These are the charges

Thou shalt not kill

Thou shalt not worship idols

Thou shalt not steal

These three charges

Upon thy forehead

Upon thy breast

Upon thy soul 

In the court of courts 

Before the judge 

The jury, the Lord

The people

Take it upon yourself

To kneel 

And to finally take 

Sacrifice
