recurring nightmare - Dream 984  Military Stages a Coup Suspends the Constitution

A group of military officers decides that enough is enough.  They stage a lightning fast coup and take over the government.  They depose Trump, Pence, and half of the Congress charging them with gross incompetence, corruption and collusion/conspiracy against the constitution.  They suspend the Congress, suspend the constitution and announce that they would rule by decree until such time as new elections could be organized.  No existing member of Congress or the Senate would be allowed to run.  The new election would only occur after the Constitution is amended.

They then begin to impose Christian Fascism.  They announce draconian cuts to the Federal government, turning most functions over to the States or just abolishing agencies all together, re-institute the draft with no exemptions everyone will serve two to three years, announcing that the U.S. is a Christian nation and that Christian principles will be incorporated into how the government operates and that would be spelled out in the new constitution.  Muslims would have to register with the government and Muslim Mosques will lose tax exemptions.   Promotion of atheism and atheism would be banned.   Foreign new services will no longer be allowed to broadcast from the US or be shown in the US and foreign journalist will be banned US news agencies will have to preclear all broadcasts but the government will promise 24-hour approval for all but the most controversial broadcasts and will approve all but the most controversial broadcasts.  A Federal Standards Board will have to approve all entertainment.  Shows, movies, songs, plays, novels, short stories, poetry everything essentially will be governed by the board rulings. Excessive violence, excessive sexual content, gay sexual content, anti-American, and anti-Christian content would be banned.   Homosexuality will be banned.  Abortion will be banned.  Prostitution will be banned.  Pornography will be banned and access to porn sites on the internet will be blocked as will access to foreign news services and anti-Christian, and anti-American content.  Sex outside of a traditional Male/Female marriage will be banned.   Marriage will be defined as the union of a man and women who intend to have children.  Married couples who refuse to have children after ten years will have their marriages dissolved unless they adopt children.    Drugs including marijuana will be illegal. Alcohol and tobacco will also be illegal. Casinos and gambling will be illegal everywhere including on Indian reservations.  These rules would be enforced under a new National Morality Act which will be applied nationwide.  Each State must enact their own morality act which must meet or exceed the Federal standards and most violations will be prosecuted under State law.  Federal law will apply when the violations occur in more than one state or the violators are residents of different states or the violations are egregious enough to merit Federal enforcement.   The FBI will have a new vice unit which will investigate suspected violations and turn over the evidence to the States for prosecution.

The red states applauded the actions of the new government and looked forward to resuming democracy after the new constitution is adopted.  The Republican party renamed itself the Christian Republican Party and vowed to support the new government's attempts to restore and strengthen  America and denounced Trump and Pence and the old establishment.

The blue states vowed to resist the new regime and demanded the right to succeed and form new governmental organizations.  The Democratic party adopted a pro-succession platform in a national convention in SF.  The governor of California announced that the entire West Coast would join with British Columbia and Baja California in forming a new nation to be called the California Federation with the capital at SF at the old Presidio.

The North East announced that they would form the NE Federation based in NYC.  The Great Lakes announced they would form their own government based in Chicago and including Ontario.  Quebec called for a French America to be born including French-speaking Caribbean nations, Northern Maine, and Lousiana.   Florida proposed a Spanish and a British Caribbean federation nation be formed with the capitol in Miami with a Spanish Caribbean Nation and the British Caribbean and Dutch-Speaking Caribbean as part of the new nation. The Caribbean coast of Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, and Guyana would be invited to join them. 

Texas declared the formation of the Texas Republic consisting of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Northern Mexico, and parts of Oklahoma.  They would be allied with the Christian States of America.

Utah declared that they would form the Dessert Republic with Idaho and parts of Nevada and parts of Northern Arizona.

The American Indian tribes declared the formation of the Native American Federation to be based in Oklahoma with reservations scattered across North America.

Civil war loomed as the committee declared that under no circumstances would any state be allowed to leave the U.S. which would be renamed the Christian States of America and include Canada. 

Thus ended American democracy.
