With Open Heart I am Coming Home

Waves take me away
and throw me
into the arms of uncertainty
where the vast ocean of the unknown
swallows and devours.
On timely moments the same waves
bring me back to the shore and feed me,
not of seaweeds and salt,
but of comfort in the shelter of shells.
Again the waves will take me back
into the vast blue
but I know in the winds I can trust
to bring me home
where my heart unfolds by the breeze.

I have a deep liking for poems that use nature as a metaphor. And what better examples to use than the wind and the waves. Plus they alliterative. And as metaphors for life's progress, something us humans think we control but do we. So there comes a time when we have to trust that what is mapped out for us is done with the best intention and will only let us get swallowed and devoured up to a point. I love the alliteration of shore, seaweed, salt, shelter and shells. But then I would wouldn't I. A very philosophical piece which I guess is open to a number of interpretations not just mine.
Not “just” yours? This is a brilliant interpretation, Bernie. I couldn’t have done better.
”Will only get us swallowed and devoured up to a point”. Exactelly!
If you just read it, I would be happy enough, but taking the time to reflect and sharing
what you think, it’s a real heart warming. Thank you! B
Cheers Bernadette. I cannot just read a poem. I have to let the words I am reading take me to the places they were meant to. It's like for a period of around 15 minutes I drown in the words and they gradually reveal a meaning to me. Not always right of course but hey it was such fun while it lasted. I find reading the words like that rewards.
Riding the tides of life and trusting the elements to keep one safe. I love the idea of seeking comfort and shelter from a seashell. A beautiful piece of poetry x
