Lady Guenevere

Standing motionless, the girl peered through the thick trees listening intently.  Her horse stood quiet and waited for his rider. Slung  over her shoulder was a longbow well made and tight strung, a quiver of arrows was slung on the other shoulder ...
Dressed in leather vest and riding breeches with tall black boots. Hair on braids and tied to the back, she was a sight.  She quietly removed an arrow deftly stringing it in the bow. Never took her eyes from the wounded buck she had been tracking. Some hunter probably a nobleman out for sport. Had shot and wounded this deer on her fathers lands.  As he stepped into the clearing she could see an arrow stuck deep in his chest.  The deer was suffering. She let loose her arrow and it found its mark.  The noble creature slumped to the ground and cell to his side without any sound. She saw it had at least two prong antlers maybe that was their aim anyway he would serve as good for her table and those in need at her village.
She with some effort managed to hoist the buck in her saddle and lead her horse back to King Leodegrance castle

Princess Guinevere was the only daughter of king Leodegrance a Celtic king. Her mother Queen Mave had
Died when she was young. That left her aging father and two older brothers to raise the young girl. Her mother had come from a line of warrior   celts where the women were as much warrior as their men.
But the young Guenevere who preferred the forests and streams of their land to confinement doing house hold chores, had felt the pressure of the many suitors that sought her out.  All soundly rejected! She truly was not into marriage and saw no need to tie herself to some aging debauched noble.
But she was a loving daughter and knew her father was worried about her, he was old and the times were not stable. With the Saxons about and King Arthur was embattled in numerous battles attempting to stabilize England.
So she was resigned to accept as good a husband as she could stand to benefit her fathers holdings And Ease his worries.

Guinevere led the horse and deer to the stables where the groomsmen took the horse and promised to deliver the deer to the cook.  When she looked up for the first time in arrival she noticed additional strange horses in the bath saddles slung over the doors and banner heads placed carefully in the corner.... The golden dragon.  Oh my .... The royal crest of Arthur!!  Her heart slipped a beat and she couldn't swallow
Glancing down at her unseemly attire she furtively found her way to her chambers unseen.  Calling to her maids she raced then to a hot bath and mulled over her
gowns.  She chose the ruby one that had been her mother's.  With a matching ribbon at her throat long lovely ruby earrings and a lovely hold chain necklace with a locket holding a tiny portrait of her mother
Guenevere looked at her reflection on the glass her ladies had all been shocked at the transformation.  Long golden brown hair. Pinned up with Pearl combs, brilliant green eyes with long lashes rosey lips and an ivory complexion. Tiny waist long legs and ample cleavage she was a stunner.. As she built her courage to go to the great hall where she could hear the loud laughter and music drifting in. A soft knock at her door she opened it to reveal her father standing there open mouthed in shock.  "Guenevere lass you almost stopped my heart you look just like your mother". A wide smile crossed his lips and a tear  could be seen rolling down his face.  " I came lassie as there is another piece that goes to those earrings of your mother's. ".  And the good king and father held out a lovely delicate ruby and diamond tiara.  He paused waiting for her permission to place it on her head.  He stood back and said my dear you look a princess tonight. He kissed her cheek gently and left the room.
Deep breath Guen this isn't as hard as shooting a deer is it,?  She asked herself.

In the great hall, standing by the welcoming fire was a tall handsome man dressed in noble riding attire tall boots leathers and holding a goblet filled with ale. There were several rather large well dressed men with him all seeming to be enjoying their drink.  She walked in and the room fell silent.  Causing the princess to feel quite awkward and nervous was she dressed wrong something not. Correct .. but before she could flee back to her chamber Arthur himself stepped forward and took her hand.  ,,Come m,lady.  Please join us as we were just asking your father where was his beautiful daughter, and here you are far lovelier than I could ever have imagined.
Guenevere could feel her cheeks turn fire red and she said My lord king. And she gave a royal curtsey you honor us with your presence here at Lyonnese. What is the reason for you to venture so far from Camelot,?
Arthur paused before he spoke taking a long drink of his glass. Mlady Guenevere would you care for a glass ,,?  She nodded and he poured her a generous amount in a finer glass than he held.  Let us walk in the garden. Shall we?  We shall stay in plain sight of your father so there can be no dishonor.  He gave a charming grin.  So she held out his arm and she without usual objection took it.
He was. Very tall she noticed and very handsome.  Dark blue eyes that were deep and kind, created from laughing and smiling and tan from being outdoors.  His forehead was wide and tall with auburn hair thick and with some curls at the back. She saw a fit build not a weak lazy royal that stayed in sick vices all the day. Here was a working king. That truly cared for his people And his knights.
Guenevere found herself listening to him tell her of his recent trials at home and on the battle field. She loved the sound of his voice!  She loved to watch his facial expressions and his shoulders and.... Lady Guenevere !  She snapped out of her whatever that was.  the King was worriedly looking at her age you well?<<,I didn't mean to go on so.. I just wanted to gaze at you...... And his eyes met hers with  gold highlights she noticed and found herself friending in those eyes.  He put a hand on her waist and brought her close to him.  My. Lady as you may well know I have no Queen. I just have not found the one I wished to marry. A king cannot have the luxury to marry for love unless God smiles down and delivers him a true miracle.
Such as you My dear Princess Guenevere would you agree to marry me and become my heRy my love my royal zQueen of Camelot and of England,?
