A Higland Winter

A Higland Winter

Gazing through a frosted window pain
Into a beautiful winters night
Three foot of clean white snow
Not a green leave in sight

Flakes the size acorns
Falling heavy from the sky
Bullets to any bird
No attempt to fly

Where a shed stood last week
Was now an igloo with the snow
The window panes are covering
Theres nowhere we can go

No salt grit could melt
Or help in this freeze
Freezing conditions
Making me sneeze & wheeze

Taps are frozen
No water will flow
To the emergency
Supplies I go

Pick up the phone
No line or sound
Waiting until
Electricity’s found
The snow gets deeper
The room goes dark
Sets off the dog
He has a bark

the hills are lonely
to live in this weather
but when the sun shines
I see it better
The view from up here
When the sun rises
Makes a winter in the highlands
Lets you see its surprises
