When I was a young man,
I was struck through the heart,
By the radiant arrow of Love,
The kind of Love
That does not exist
In reality,
Only in books, and in dreams
Did such a Love endeavor,
To come to a man
In the form
Of a woman,
Even her name
Was glorious,
And I knew then
I would never Love again,
So,
I stood before her
Naked,
And swore to her
That I would die,
If I could not Love her
And show her, my jealousy
If she ever looked at another,
As I would have her
Look,
At me...
We believed, that our Love
Came from, a single star
That split in apart in the heavens
Well before, it ever touched
The Earth,
How else to explain
Our binding Love at first sight?
We believed,
That there was no other Love
Beneath the stars,
Other,
Than our own,
But we were oh so young
Then,
I knew, only one thing
For sure,
That I wished to die
Wrapped in the arms of my Love,
And so it was not so insane,
That we found ourselves
Embracing, upon a rainy ship
Bound, for the island of Eros,
Where only true Love exists,
We believed,
Our Love incurable,
And ever contagious
So,
We decided
To live our Love, in isolation
Beneath those very stars,
That first created
Us,
Hand in hand
Forever,
And never ever
Again,
Split,
Apart...

My Dear Tony,
This poem is a mirror into my past. When I was nineteen, I too encountered this beautiful girl with a glorious name, "Tamara". We met on a Saturday morning and had our first date that very evening. It lasted till Tuesday morning, stopping only for some sleep respites. We parted, so I could go back to my city, fifty miles away, and she could return to school. You see, she was "Just Seventeen". For three sleepless nights, we talked for hours on the phone. Then Friday, I picked her up at school and brought her back to my city for the weekend. I told my parents we had found eternal love, but from hers, we kept our little secret. We forged her birth certificate to show she was eighteen. On Thursday we eloped, to North Carolina, and that Monday were married by a Justice of the Peace, sixteen days after meeting, thinking we would spend eternity in each others arms. Two children, and less than six years later, we parted. How did yours work out?

Holy cow!! ~ Thanx LARRY!!...... so glad I caught this....... that's a pretty intense representation of young Love at its finest!!..... you eloped to North Carolina, forged her birth certificate....... you know something...... there's an episode of the old "Dick Van Dyke Show" where Rob finds out that Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) was only seventeen when they got married...... and I'm pretty sure it was in North Carolina (a military base if memory serves)........ any way....... he had to go and remarry her!! ~ it was a VERY funny episode....... as for me, the write was a fiction that I worked up because I wanted to do a representation of how overwhelmingly powerful young Love can be......I had mine ~ but didn't take it as far as marriage........ but thanx for sharing this and helping bring back fond memories........I always look forward to your comments!!......... you're the coolest!!.....I hope you're still friends with her & in touch with the kids........ Love ALWAYS serves a purpose!!.......... your friend and admirer.........T xo
