A Nasty Companion

I have a deficiency
It dwells in the gap
Let's call him Apathy
He likes to take a nap
 
My heart, named Love
doesn't hold a grudge
It wants to act
but Apathy won't budge
 
Love dreams up letters
in the middle of the night
But Apathy drops the pen
refuses to write
 
Even though easier
to email or text
Apathy the snail
says he'll do it "next"
 
Love says it's important
to talk to Life's guests
But Apathy won't buy it
"Perhaps after some rest"
 
Love plans a gift
something rare
-- and thoughtful
 
Apathy won't shift
 
He just don't care
 
Ain't that awful!
 
Love remembers a face
wants to dial up their name
Apathy failed to charge phone
Call's postponed again
 
Love is there
but something's very wrong
Apathy sabotages everything
He's simply too strong
 
I hate him so much
He makes me so sad
I think it's high time
that Love got real mad
 
But it's not in Love's nature
so let's not pretend
He will never succeed
unless he finds a new friend
