A Thing Well Done

Antique lace and a vase of roses
A photograph long yellowed
Letters from a studied hand
Distance only made them fonder
Not the fast pace of modern ways
One can be wed and apart in a week
These artifacts of another time
Worth saving and recalling
Of a day when words were things
When a vow was not to be taken
Lightly nor in haste
But to work them into a lifetime
Like a tapestry or lace
When the finished craft of beauty
Is regarded at a distant time
It still  holds the quality of
a thing well done
