A Toast

I come in peace 
just here too 
piece my mind 
figured new year 
great time 
fresh start 
apart from the last one 
filled with grief 
so much pain 
burdens carrying over 
however not the same 
at least to early to prove 
my optimism is high 
feeling 2021 is different 
for all of mankind 
realistically the hope 
is no guarantee 
however it’s keeping me 
together at this time 
so who am I 
to judge these feelings 
when I want to overcome 
all these fears 
we have been forced
to live with 
seems like we all 
just want a break 
but the Worldly problems 
are content working 
overtime 24/7
i guess it’s just a lesson 
we all have to learn 
if happiness is 
what we truly desire 
then patience will 
go hand in hand 
I laugh at people 
that try to make plans 
last time I checked 
none of them
had masks made 
ahead of time 
ok bad example 
did I at least get a laugh 
point I’m making 
is I have good intentions 
on making this year different 
to all that agree
and have the desire
raise your drinks with me 
let’s all make a toast 
to optimism and powerful thoughts 
regardless the issues we face 
we all make a promise 
to walk tall 
through it all 
we all agree 
there is nothing 
we can’t overcome 
2021 will be the year 
we let it all 
hang out 
no more fear 
we will live 
no longer in doubt 
we all say cheers 
sounds of many drinks 
all becoming one 
as we all salute 
together as one
