A Walk Through The Flames
 
Lightning strikes.
I can feel the burn, the searing pain as my body twist and turns.
I can feel the heat smoldering under my skin.
These are the telling signs of the flare that is about to begin.
One little spark and the fire will start, with each shallow breath, with each beat of my heart.
Muscles draw taunt under the searing pain, pulling me down into this inferno of flames.
Wave after wave, they caress my skin, easing into my spine where the real torture begins, pulling and tearing my bones and skin.
My body grows weak wrapped in this blanket of flames, squeezing me tighter and tighter in this horror called pain.
I wonder how long, how long will this flare take. My soul screams out in agony in the silence that I now call my home.
As the flames flicker higher like a sensual dance, beating to the rhythm of each mournful breath and knowing I haven't seen the end of this one yet.
I close my eyes and surrender at last. Tears of grief and sorrow flow freely for a lost life I will never get back.
My body is tormented as my soul screams out to be free of the pain. I feel the searing liquid fire as it is running throughout my veins.
This is pulling me down, down into that bottomless pit of shame, the place of true hopelessness, where I fear I will remain.
In my complete desperation, I cry out his name; “God I know you are with me, please help me bare this pain once again.
 Just as the flames flicker to ashes and drift away with the wind, I feel a gentle breeze lightly touching my skin.
A soft reassurance that settles deep within until, once again , a walk through the flames returns.
 
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10
