A Work in Progress

A Work in Progress

In the back of the palace kitchen, the Chef is perplexed
.
Sinks of different shapes and sizes have turned everything into a cesspool of foul soup
.
The King is patiently waiting for a meal
.
So, faithful Chef presses on with his recipe regardless
.
One sink is laughing at the shape of another
.
A second is gawking at the large sink that washes the floor mats
.
while a third scoffs at the creamy slop in the pastry cook's corner
.
Yet another spits out to his left some remark about a slightly cracked handle
.
and to his right a critique of how slow his neighbour's tap is running
.
There are a few sinks just minding their own business
.
but those that busybody splash their ruckus all over the "God-damned" place
.
They don't notice that they're filling up fast
.
piles of plates and pots stacking high
.
grotty cutlery wedging between cracks and getting bent out of shape
.
Several start to panic and, thinking they are clever, add soap
.
in the hope that it will wash their dirt away
.
But the suds only highlight the problem
.
and the grimy waters start to overflow
.
The kitchen begins to stink
.
but only the faithful sinks are aware of it
.
as they continue to accept what the chef puts to them for rinse
.
He does the wipe and polish
.
as he waits for the oven to cook up his choice dish
.
The clogged sinks start to complain bitterly
.
They blame the Chef for letting things get out of hand
.
The time comes where he gets another break from his cooking
.
He puts on 'gloves of steel' and proceeds to unblock all the drains
.
Some of the sinks are thankful
.
They feel great relief
.
and ask the Chef how it happened that they became so gunked
.
He explains that they had failed to pay attention to the inner work of rinsing what comes
.
He explains that, once each rinsing season is complete, they need to empty their drains
.
If they don't rinse, and let the work pile up, the darkness hides the plug and the waste starts to overflow
.
After this cleaning of the kitchen, some sinks learn the lesson
.
They focus, recieve kitchenware with thanks, rinse, and drain
.
But others just go back to their bad habits
.
So, here we go again
