Adam, Eternally an Orphan

Imagine hearing the words
"You are not mine!"
from a father or a mother
What makes us children,
the essential qualities?
In some cultures
it simply boils down to DNA

Genes mostly result in resemblances,
be it image features or character traits:
a dimple here, a nose bridge there,
some idiosyncratic twitch
Then there's tone of voice in mother tongue,
or a gifting like musical talent or sport

Other cultures accept a child as one reared;
the nurture in a domestic culture
that determines the family dynamic;
shared stories and spaces and shibboleth

According to the haters,
God said to Jesus
"You are not my son!"
and Jesus was totally fine with it
If he wasn't God's Son,
then what hope is there for the rest of us?
