Poem -
Addiction
It's not him.
It's a deadly rose that takes root in his mind,
entwining her vines around him.
Taking his soul.
Her thorns, sharp, showing no mercy,
piercing through everything he was.
Changing him, his mindset, his morals.
Poison.
She leads him to a new realm,
exciting, thrilling.
Devastating.
She owns him, he is at her mercy.
Her name?
Addiction.
She is strong, dangerous.
He is weak in her captivity.
She shows no limits, neither does he.
Lies and deception enables her growth.
Illuminate her, help him.
Freedom is possible.
It's not him, it's addiction.
He is not eternally lost, he has been borrowed temporarily.
He can return, don't give up on him.

WOW!! EMMA!!.....I've read many poems dealing with addiction.....but this......is not only clever.......but its perspective....its coming from the feminine antagonist......using the narrator as a neutral voice observing the whole.......observing the evil viper of addiction as a ~

thank you for your comment. I am very proud of this piece as embedded within is pure life experience which enabled me to capture the raw quality of addiction as an outsider looking in. addiction is enthralling in the beginning leading to darkness but its never the dead end.Will power can change destinies.
