thick browns and jagged greys and tapered harvest gold
decked in thistles, leaves or petals
some with queer lime of leichen and tangerine mold
 
straight and poking or swirling and folding
the speckled the damp
the hollow and the dry
 
clusters and solos
the brittle and the succulent
lavish spreads and shy fronds
 
all of them reaching upward
in wild abandon
for a light they cannot see
