all men 'and women' are created equal

all men are created equal they say
straight out of the Declaration of Independence 
that statement is fair, they say 
the word equal is in it. 
but what about women? 
are women created as equal as men? 
should women be treated any differently? 
the answer is no 
are we still treated differently?
the answer is yes
for over one hundred years 
we've been fighting for
equal rights and jobs 
the same liberties and salaries

we still haven't achieved the greater goal.
why, you ask? 
why do we continue to fight, 
after all this time? 
what would be the point in living if we didn't?
being treated as less 
because of your gender? 
taking a pay cut 
because of different anatomy? 
all we can do is try.
will we give up, you ask? 
never.
not until the job is done. 
because, as a very intelligent lady once said, 
all men and women are created equal.
